# France: Most of 224,000 evacuees allowed to return home after devastating fires

In the southeastern Var department, a blaze that had been brought under control three days earlier flared up again on Friday. Authorities evacuated nearly 2,500 people overnight as a result. Reporter James Andre also visited Gironde, where France’s largest wildfire in more than 70 years was recently brought under control.
