# EU debt to reach €1 trillion in 2027, chief auditor says

> European Court of Auditors President Tony Murphy said the EU’s debt as an organization is expected to reach €1 trillion by the end of 2027, more than 500% of the bloc’s budget. The figure excludes the debts of EU member states. Murphy said pressure on the EU budget is growing.
