> Leftist President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva defeated right-wing Senator Flavio Bolsonaro, making a dramatic comeback after losing the first round. Brazil’s electoral court said Lula won 51 percent of the vote to Bolsonaro’s 48.68 percent. The vote was clouded by allegations that suspended public transport suppressed turnout in some areas; polling was extended by two hours. Lula secured an unprecedented fourth non-consecutive term.
