> Families across northeastern Nigeria continue searching for relatives who disappeared amid years of violence. Kashim Mohammed’s sister went missing in 2011, while Muhammad Alhaji Bashir’s brother disappeared around 2012 or 2013; neither family knows whether their loved one is alive or dead. Advocates cited an estimate of 17,000 missing people across northern Nigeria, while a Maiduguri association’s records put the number in Borno State at about 10,000.
