> Interior Minister Laurent Nuñez said 135 people had been arrested as nationwide protests resumed Saturday. Those detained allegedly carried items that could be used as weapons, including fireworks and ball bearings. Paris police reported more than 3,000 checks and 65 arrests. France deployed 70,000 officers; police used tear gas in several cities, and clashes were reported in Marseille and Lyon. The demonstrations began with students and widened after unions joined, bringing opposition to austerity and concerns about wages, pensions and living costs.
