> New York City's council has approved a ban on the city's well-known horse-drawn carriages, to take effect in June 2028. Mayor Zohran Mamdani backed the proposal. The death of an 18-year-old after a horse bolted and caused a fatal fall was the final catalyst. The BBC spoke with tourists, residents and carriage workers about the industry and the ban.
