> A study estimates that heat killed a record 50,000 people in European cities this summer, with scientists attributing about two-thirds of the deaths to human-caused climate change. Heat-related death rates were highest in Malta, Italy and Hungary; researchers also said health problems, loneliness and poverty compounded the toll.
