> Residents of a rural Australian town were horrified and disbelieving on Tuesday after a highly respected lawmaker was seriously injured in what appeared to be a targeted attack. Former nurse and midwife Helen Haines entered parliament in 2019 and earned respect across party lines for efforts to fight corruption and promote transparency. A two-tonne SUV struck the 65-year-old in Wangaratta on Monday afternoon.
