# DR Congo protests Formula 1’s ‘indefensible’ decision to race in Rwanda

> DR Congo’s foreign minister, Therese Kayikwamba Wagner, said a Rwanda Grand Prix would “polish the image of an authoritarian leader”. Rwanda plans to build a circuit near Kigali for a race in the early 2030s. DR Congo backs South Africa’s rival bid and says credible, independent guarantees are needed to keep conflict-linked minerals and exploitation of Congolese resources out of race funding.
