# Venezuela’s Maduro pleads not guilty to US conspiracy to torture charges

> Nicolás Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores, pleaded not guilty in a New York City court to new charges of conspiring to commit torture. The indictment alleges they oversaw torture, arbitrary detention and violence against people viewed as disloyal or as threats, including political opponents. US prosecutors did not accuse either of directly carrying out torture.
